About the Photographer

I’m not just a girl with a camera who loves to take pictures of animals!

I mean, I am, let’s be real. But I’ve also poured a whole lot of myself into building a studio and a process in which you and your pet can both be comfortable. You’ll both be a little spoiled by the time we’re all done. From playful puppies to majestic felines, I absolutely LOVE capturing timeless portraits of animals and want you to have physical printed pieces of artwork that will keep you smiling for years to come.

My clients

  • obsess about their pets and treat them like family. Because they are!
  • make their plans around their pet’s feeding and potty schedule.
  • take their pets with them to many places they go.
  • treat their pets and themselves to the very best.
  • would prefer someone else do the work for them rather than DIY.
  • want timeless keepsakes to celebrate their best friend.
  • prefer to communicate by email or text.

But what about the photographer?

  • That weird lady that wants to run across the street just to meet your pet? Yeah, that’s me.
  • I really do love all the animals, but cats are my favorites–just don’t tell my dogs, m’kay?
  • Self care sometimes means being alone in a darkened theatre in the middle of the week with an enormous bag of heavily buttered popcorn.
  • Over 200 dogs, 100 cats, and a whopping ten non-standard pets have been in front of my lens with a 99.99% success rate. You will be hard pressed to find a more experienced pet photographer in Oklahoma.
  • If you cry, I will totally cry with you. Also, I’m a hugger. Consider yourself warned.
  • I try really hard to keep up with my fitness. I mean… have you SEEN what kind of contortions pet photographers sometimes have to get into?
  • All my photography education time and money goes into PET photography specifically. As a result, you will rarely see humans in my portraits.

Meet our menagerie

Pets are an important and valued part of our family. In fact we have separate rooms for each species to keep them all alive, as not everybody gets along.

Goldie came off the streets of northeast Oklahoma City. She will tell you when she needs pets. Loudly.
Black dog with tan markings sitting on a blue lounger in front of a dark purple backdrop. Head is tilted to the left and wearing a purple collar and tag.
Bonnie is a foster-adopt from Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. She trained to be my studio practice model and does a fabulous job! Happy to work… as long as there are treats!

Marlee came from Oklahoma City Animal Welfare. She is bi-polar and likes men.
Brown dog with a black snout, one ear raised, and one flopped, is laying on a cream colored background.
Edward came from the backyard of a vacant home in central OKC, and he wants nothing more than to put his head in your lap. Nevermind that you are standing up and have no lap!
Our latest addition: at twelve, Earl was a senior adoption from All Paws Rescue. He is a quirky boy with bad hips, and he absolutely loves physical affection. And cookies.

Giving back

Some of my photography time is spent with Oklahoma City Animal Welfare, and local foster-based rescues including All Paws Rescue, Misfits Mutts & Meows, and Safe Haven Animal Rescue creating portraits of animals eligible for adoption. It is very rewarding to have a direct impact on their adoption!

If you manage or coordinate an animal rescue organization in the Oklahoma City area and are interested in working with OKKat Photography to create portraits of animals eligible for adoption, or to explore fundraising opportunities, reach out to kathy@okkatphoto.com. I would be happy to discuss your specific needs and goals and to see how OKKat Photography can support your organization’s efforts to find loving homes for animals in need. Professional pet portrait photography can be a powerful tool for animal rescue organizations, as it can help to showcase the unique personalities and characteristics of the animals available for adoption and to help them stand out to potential adopters.

Incredible! – See what past clients have to say.

She really is the BEST!!.

I took my 18-year old kitty and 12-year old dog to get some “end of life” photos since I knew it probably wouldn’t be long. She made us feel immediately comfortable, wasn’t too serious, was patient and kind with my pets. She took way more than I ever thought she would, and we ended up with some truly unforgettable images!! The ordering process was low-pressure and easy, and everything came in quickly. – Andrea Hurst

Best of all, we LOVE the photos.

What a delightful and successful experience with OKKat Photography! Kathy came to our home for a photo session with our cat. She first connected with Smudgie, then brought in setup materials with background complementing our cat’s calico coloring. Cats are not particularly cooperative, but Kathy knew how to work with our girl. No guessing on cost, time, products, and delivery of final photos with her contract agreements. Best of all, we LOVE the photos. – Reese Todd

Great service and some beautiful photos of my sweet babies. – Connie Scothorn

You will not regret your experience!

We came here to get some pictures for some puppy adoptions, they came out absolutely amazing 🤩 – M. Scheiern

Kathy did incredible work with my dogs.

I love my picture so much. I was so happy I started crying. I highly recommend – Kerri Redus

She did an incredible job!

Kathy did a photo shoot for my three foster kittens and she did an incredible job! She brought props and kitty toys to help engage the kittens. It is not an easy feat to get kittens posed and still enough for photos but she mastered it. Highly recommend! – Michelle Hopkins
